Whether because of ice jams, snow melt or prolonged rain, Montana’s potential for flooding is a big concern for the coming months. However, as with most hazards, there are actions you can take to prepare for and recovery from a flood.
Good information on preparing for a flood can be found from FEMA, the American Red Cross, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
FEMA and the American Red Cross have an older, but useful booklet about recovering from a flood. NFIP has helpful steps for what to do after a flood.
The National Weather Service describes the history and most common types of flooding in Montana.
