Montana Disaster & Emergency Services (MT DES) administers several grants that support our mission to coordinate comprehensive emergency management in Montana. These funds are categorized as non-disaster and disaster grants. Non-disaster grants focus primarily on Preparedness, Response, and Mitigation. Disaster grants focus on recovering from disasters and preventing similar community impacts in the future.
Non-disaster Grants: These funds support building, sustaining and delivering essential emergency management capabilities. MT DES administers the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and the Homeland Security Grant Program, which includes funding for Operational Stonegarden.
Non-disaster Grants also include Pre-disaster Mitigation funding and Flood Mitigation funding. Mitigation provides a long-term solution that reduces the impacts of hazards in communities.
Disaster Grants: These funds may become available following a disaster and are intended to help communities and governmental organizations return to normal life, and protect against future hazards.
